Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shakar, one of the American and British sitar artist. She was among the youngest and the first woman to be awarded an award from the British House of Commons Shield she's had 9 Grammy Awards nominations and was the first artist of Indian origin to play live and to be a presenter for the ceremony. Anoushka Shakar, who is just a rising singer on Indian Sitar is Anoushka. She is the daughter of Ravi Shankar and a former student. She was born in 1982 in London. Her early years were spent between London in London and New Delhi. At New Delhi, she made her debut when she was only thirteen years of age. Then she relocated into Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha continues to have a bright career in recording and performing even though she's young. She is often seen performing together with her dad, and has performed with him for quite a number of years. She released her debut single album Anourag in 1998. She released the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years following. Stage performances are a significant part of her work. She has performed in a variety of major venues all over the world. Anoushka isn't only a singer. Bapi The Love of My Life is a illustrated biographical work she wrote in 2002. It is a tribute to her late father Ravi Shankar. Also, in films in 2003 she played the role in the film Dance Like a Man where she is a young Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka continues to grow in her professional career, and there will be many more things to come from this talented woman. Anoushka is a native of England, but spent most of her youth split between London in the UK and Delhi. Then she moved to California and enrolled in the high school. At the age of nine, she started studying music with her father. She made her debut with the sitar 4 years later, at his birthday party in Delhi. As a part of her dad's band as his world tour, Anoushka had a wealth of experience performing in Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival as well as performing alongside George Harrison. She was the first woman to win the House of Commons Shield, awarded by British Parliament as recognition of her musical talent and artistic ability in the Asian Arts.
